The Build

The construction of the Stadium was a long drawn out process, taking many years to complete. Work ceased at the site in November 2001 leaving the pitch and drainage laid and the main stand and other buildings in various states of completion. An examiner was appointed to Shamrock Rovers F.C. on 11 April 2005 and the Council engaged in discussions with the examiner with regard to the completion of the Stadium and its use by Shamrock Rovers Football Club when completed.
A public consultation process began in July 2005 to complete the stadium and building recommenced in May 2008. It is a credit to the Councilors and all who were involved in South Dublin County Council that the facility has been completed to such a high standard. In addition to substantial South Dublin County Council funding, the Department of Arts Sport and Tourism gave generous grant aid to the project.

Tallaght Stadium is owned by South Dublin County Council with Shamrock Rovers anchor tenants. The first game in the new stadium was held on 13th March 2009. The stadium was officially opened on 27th May 2009.
